local police department and an outstanding hospital nearby. The West
Hills Hospital and Medical Center is renowned for their advanced
surgical center. The hospital also boosts a large maternity ward and

Stones Montessori School, Chaminade College Preparatory High School,

Stepping Stones
Montessori
School is a learning environment for infants, toddlers, pre-schoolers and
kindergartners. Stepping Stones encourages children to learn
creatively. They offer several extra-curricular activities such as
Spanish, Farsi, French, ballet, and yoga. Stepping Stones is perfect
for getting your youngster a head start in learning.
Chaminade
College
Preparatory High School is a Catholic high school with rigorous and
prestigious curriculum. The school reports that six out of ten
graduates are accepted to their first choice school upon graduation.
Chaminade College Preparatory was also recognized as a National Blue
Ribbon School in 1998. The National Blue Ribbon is the highest honor
an American school can receive.
Pierce
College
is an affordable community college that offers several associate
degrees and professional certification programs. Among their variety
of classes, Pierce College has also been recognized by
Military Times Edge
magazine as one of the 50 Most Popular Colleges in which active-duty
military attend.
California
State
University – Northridge is less than twenty minutes away and offers
distinguished degrees in many different fields. Recently, educator,
Dr. Steven B. Oppenheimer, received the U.S. Presidential Award for
Excellence in Science, Mathematics and Engineering Mentoring.
Cal
Lutheran
University
is another highly esteemed university in the area of West Hills.
Their Kingsmen football team ranked number 24 in USA Today’s
Division III Top 25 poll. Cal Lutheran’s radio station,
KCLU Radio, has also won several national awards.
Recreation
West Hills is
surrounded by several lush parks and hiking trails. West Hills is
the home to two historical ranches.
The Orcutt Ranch
Estate is a 1920 adobe home with gardens and citrus orchards. The
park offers self-guided tours, house tours, and annual public citrus
harvesting.
The Shadow Ranch
Park was original owned by an Australian immigrant and later
acquired by screenwriting couple, Colin Clements and Florence Ranch.
Florence Ranch co-wrote the screenplay for The Wizard of Oz
while living here. The 1961 drama The Children’s Hour, starring
Audrey Hepburn and Shirley MacLaine, was also filmed here. Now this
ranch is used as a public park with lighted basketball courts,
football and soccer fields, and baseball diamonds.
There are other
several large, open parks for walking, hiking, mountain biking, and
horseback riding. At
Bell
Canyons Park, hikers can hike to the top of Castle Peak. The hike is
tough but is believed to give the best view over the community.
Hit the beach for
a day! Popular beaches are only seventeen miles away from the West
Hills’ community.
Entertainment
West Hills is in
driving distance of movie theaters and local theaters. For a day of
fun, drive less than twenty miles north to experience the
exhilarating roller coasters of
Six
Flags
Magic
Mountain
or the steep water slides of Hurricane Harbor.
Travel less than
twenty miles east and you will be able to spend the day at Universal
Studios and City Walk. Universal Studios Universal Studios is packed
with Hollywood movie fun with studio tours and exciting rides.
Studio
City
Walk offers several unique restaurants and shops. City Walk also
hosts several concerts and events. Catch a movie at their huge
8-story, IMAX Theater or the Jon Lovitz Comedy Club.
